Found too many ads on your Windows 10 computer and feel very annoyed? Don’t worry! You can turn off most of those ads in a few minutes automatically, or manually.
Starting from Windows 10, Microsoft implements several types of ads on a user’s computer. Those ads will be displayed on the Lock Screen, Start Menu, or even on File Explorer.
In this post, I’m going to show you handy ways you can use to remove all those annoying ads out of your Windows computer. You just need to follow my instructions and get rid of them immediately.
How To Turn Off Most Ads In Windows 10 Automatically Or Manually
There are two ways you can use to remove all the ads on your Windows computer:
- Turn off all ads manually.
- Run a .REG script that will adjust the Windows Registry entries and disable all ads.
1. Turn Off Ads In Windows 10 Manually
Manually disabling ads will let you control where you want to show or hide ads. This method also helps you to prevent Windows 10 from displaying ads in some particular places that the .REG script can’t turn off.
1.A. Turn Off Suggestions On Start Menu
In Windows 10, Microsoft starts to show suggestions in the Start menu. Most are products of Microsoft, such as Edge or OneNote, but sometimes, it shows several new free games, as well as commercial apps.
If you don’t want to see these suggestions anymore, press Windows + I to open the Settings app. Then go to Personalization -> Start and switch off the “Occasionally show suggestions in Start” option.
1.B. Turn Off Ads On Lock Screen
On your Windows 10 Lock Screen, Microsoft may display two types of ads:
- Wallpaper ads: These ads often are gaming wallpaper, such as Tomb Raider. It looks good, but it’s still an ad.
- Suggestions and tips: You can find suggestions and tips on your Lock Screen as well.
To turn off these ads, go to Settings -> Personalization -> Lock Screen. Then select “Picture” or “Slideshow” option from the Background drop-down list.
Next, toggle the “Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen” option off.
1.C. Remove “Get Office” Or “Get Skype” Out Of Your PC
Microsoft promoted those apps to attract more users to their services: Microsoft Office 365 and Skype. So, if you don’t want to see those things appear on your Windows computer, simply go to Settings -> System -> Apps & Features.
In the next step, search for both of them and remove them out of your Windows computer.
1.D. Remove Windows 10 Suggestions And Other Types Of Ads
Microsoft may show you a few annoying suggestions, tips and tricks on your taskbar or somewhere else. To turn those ads off, go to Settings -> System -> Notifications & Actions, then turn off both the following features:
- Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use windows.
- Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates, and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and suggested.
1.E. Turn Off Ads In File Explorer
Got a few annoying ads within Windows File Explorer and can’t remove them entirely? Even worse, those ads spawned again after a while.
To turn off this type of ad entirely, press Windows + E to open the File Explorer.
In the next step, go to File -> Change folder and search options -> View tab.
Then locate the “Show sync provider notifications” option, uncheck it and click on the “OK” button.
2. Turn Off Most Windows 10 Ads With A .REG File
If you don’t want to turn off all the Windows 10 ads manually, simply download this file, extract it and run the turn-off-ads.reg file. It will adjust Windows Registry entries to disable those ads.
However, there are a few options that can’t be turned off by changing Registry entries, as I mentioned above. Therefore, you have to do it manually.
