You have recently spent your money purchasing a new headphone and want to connect it to your Windows 10 computer to listen to music or a movie, but it doesn’t work. You couldn’t hear anything when plugging it into your PC although you used the right connection port.
Well! Don’t worry! You aren’t alone. According to reports from Windows users, after upgrading to Windows 10 or getting some new updates, their headphones no longer work with the computer.
In this post, I will show you a few solutions that you can use to resolve this annoying issue and get your headphone back to work with your Windows 10 PC.
How To Resolve Headphone Not Working Error In Windows 10
1. Set Your Headphone To Be The Default Sound Device
Typically, when you connect your headphone to your PC, it will automatically be considered as the default device. However, sometimes your computer doesn’t do that, especially when you have more than one sound device that is connected to your PC, such as another speaker system.
In this case, you need to set your headphone to be the default audio device manually. To do so, navigate to Control Panel -> Sound.
In the Playback tab, select the “Headphones” and then click on the Set Default button.
If you can’t find the headphone option from the list, just select the “Speakers/Headphone” option and set it to be the default audio device.
After that, click on the “OK” button and reboot your Windows 10 computer. You will now be able to listen your favorite music from your connected headphone.

2. Update Or Reinstall Audio Driver
Another thing that can prevent your headphone from working with your Windows 10 PC is that the audio driver isn’t installed properly. You can go to Device Manager (press Windows + X and choose M) and update or reinstall the driver of your audio hardware. It could be found from the “Sounds, video and game controllers” option.
After updating or reinstalling the audio driver, reboot your computer and try again to see whether your headphone is working or not.
Besides trying the two solutions above, you should also check again if you have connected your headphone to the right port. If you’ve connected your headphone in the back of the computer case, then you might be confused as there is more than one audio port there.
